Privacy Policy

The short version: your birth details are used for chart calculation and stored on your own device, we never sell personal information, and you can delete everything at any time. The long version — still plain English — is below.
1. Who we are
Both Sides ("we", "us") is an East-West astrology and divination web app operated by the Both Sides team, reachable at privacy@bothsides.app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain English on purpose — if anything is unclear, ask us.
2. What we collect
Birth details — date, time, and location of birth. You enter these yourself, and they are used for one purpose only: chart calculation. Your Four Pillars chart, daily forecasts, and compatibility readings are all computed from these values.
Email address — only if you join our launch waitlist. We use it to notify you about launch and to deliver your founding-member reading. We don't add you to anything else.
We do not require an account in this phase of the product, and we do not collect your name, payment details, or contacts.
3. What we never do
We never sell your personal information — to anyone, for any reason. For California residents, this is our CCPA commitment: no sale, and no sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We never use your birth details for advertising, profiling, or anything other than the readings you asked for.
4. Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's local storage — not tracking cookies — for three things: remembering that you've confirmed the age gate, recording your consent choice from the cookie banner, and storing your birth profile and chart on your own device so you don't have to re-enter them. Because this data lives in your browser, it never reaches our servers in this phase, and clearing your browser data removes it completely.
5. Analytics
We run our own first-party, privacy-respecting analytics — no Google Analytics, no third-party trackers, no advertising cookies. Events are simple product-usage signals (pages visited, features used) tied only to an anonymous random id stored in your browser's local storage. We never store your IP address, your user id, or your birth details in analytics, and page URLs are stripped of query strings before they are saved.
6. AI processing
A future live Q&A feature will let you ask questions about your chart. When it launches, requests are sent to US-based AI providers containing only an anonymized chart structure — pillars, elements, and cycles. Your name, date of birth, and birth location are never included in these requests. We will update this policy and ask for your consent before this feature processes anything about you.
7. Your rights
Wherever you live, we extend GDPR-baseline rights to everyone: you may access, correct, export, or delete your personal information at any time.
In this phase, your birth profile and charts are stored locally on your own device, so you hold the keys: you can view or erase them through the app or by clearing your browser's site data — no request to us required.
For anything we do hold — currently just waitlist emails — email privacy@bothsides.app and we will export or delete your record within 30 days. California and EEA/UK residents: you also have the statutory rights provided by the CCPA/CPRA and UK/EU GDPR, and we honor them on the same terms.
8. Data retention
Locally stored profiles persist until you delete them. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until the waitlist itself is retired — whichever comes first. We keep server logs for a maximum of 90 days for security and debugging, after which they are deleted.
9. Sign in with Google
If you choose "Sign in with Google", we receive your Google-verified email address only — no name, no profile photo, no contacts, and no other Google data. We store that email plus a Google account id so we can recognize you on your next sign-in.
To unlink Google from your account, delete your account from the account page — this removes the stored Google id along with everything else we hold about you.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data — for example, when accounts, analytics, or AI Q&A launch — we will update this page, change the date below, and give notice in the app before the change takes effect.
