One app, both traditions
03From the source
Built by practitioners in China.
Both Sides is built by practitioners in China — people who grew up with these systems, not around them. The I Ching has crossed cultures before: Carl Jung wrote the foreword to the Wilhelm translation and coined the word "synchronicity" to describe how it works. John Cage composed with it. Bob Dylan and Philip K. Dick consulted it. We've carried it one step further — into plain English.

›Is this another astrology app?
Yes and no. Western astrology is here — it's the on-ramp, and it works. But the engine of Both Sides is BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) and the I Ching, systems with two to three thousand years of continuous use that most Western apps have never touched. Same sky, other side of the world.
›Do I need to know my birth time?
It helps, but it isn't a dealbreaker. Your birth time unlocks the fourth pillar — the hour — which is where BaZi's famous precision comes from. Without it, three of your four pillars still compute, and the reading is still far more specific than a sun sign. Check your birth certificate; it's usually there.
›Is BaZi the same as the Chinese zodiac?
No — and this is the biggest misconception out there. Your zodiac animal (the Year of the Horse, and so on) is one character out of the eight in a full BaZi chart. The Chinese zodiac you know from restaurant placemats is to BaZi what a horoscope column is to a real natal chart.
›Is my birth data safe?
Yes. Your birth details and chart are stored locally on your own device, not on our servers — there's nothing to breach. If you join the waitlist, we hold only your email address, and you can have it deleted any time via privacy@bothsides.app.
›Is this fortune-telling?
No. BaZi and the I Ching are pattern-reading systems — frameworks for reflection that people have used for millennia to think through timing, temperament, and decisions. We present them as exactly that: for reflection and entertainment purposes only. We make no claim of real predictive power.
For entertainment purposes only. No medical, financial, or legal advice.
